About the Artist

Nature infuses Barbara Phelps' work whether in sculptures or drawings. Actual branches and leaves are cast into the bronzes which makes them unique and one-of-a-kind.

Barbara  explores the human figure in several ways. She explores the human figure as a sculptural form that expresses the power of the human gesture. She also explores the life-sized human form as a symbol of life, of death and of the place in-between. The human form is also a presence for viewers to react to – the closer we stand to it  the stronger a psychological force it becomes.

Expressive charcoal drawing has been Barbara's medium for decades and is her go-to medium because it allows her to work spontaneously from start to finish.
