The background image is charcoal drawing of Spanish Moss or Lace Lichen which resembles abstract painting. Available in charcoal or colors. Framed print. 12x16"

Artwork Description:

Original drawing is on charcoal paper at 18 in x 24 in. The drawing was created as a negative image by erasing the black charcoal background to expose the white image. The main drawing tool is the eraser. This method of revealing the image allows for accidental surprises which appeals to the artist.

Digital print/giclee' also available for sale at Works on Paper: Prints and at the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah, California.

Subject Matter: Light in Nature

Artist's favorites are sunlight--in the morning or pre-dusk golden hour--captured through trees, on paths through misty woods or on strange botanicals, microscopic seeds, moss, lichen, mushrooms. Also light on mountain ridges and on the coast. Or light on memorable people from the past.

The light in the drawing could signify the opening of the heart and mind. Drawing en plein air--while in nature--is a spiritual communion. This meditative, peaceful state is a moment when one feels open, spacious, generous, grateful. One can be enveloped in this feeling of loving, connected presence and an aha moment of realization may even occur.

As Leonard Cohen sang. "There's a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in."

So the synchrony of light and feeling is welcomed. You have surely felt this at one time also.

I don't know why I create but I just have to.

As the buyer or collector be assured that this is a contemporary, modern and accomplished abstract drawing print.
